Lucas takes the spotlight as Targa Newfoundland 2009 sponsor

Lucas Oil Products Inc., one of the biggest and best known supporters of motorsports in North America, has added Targa Newfoundland to the list of premium events it sponsors, the company has announced.

Lucas Oil will be a Gold level sponsor of Targa Newfoundland 2009 and the official oil of the event, said Targa Vice President Scott Giannou.

The Lucas Oil name has appeared in conjunction with the highest level of every kind of motorsport imaginable in North America, and the list of Lucas-supported events reads like a roll-call for the most popular competitions on the continent.

"From drag boat racing to top-tier oval racing of every kind, to off-road and motorcycle competition, Lucas Oil is taking a leadership position," says Giannou. "Targa Newfoundland opens a new and important marketing door for what is surely the fastest growing specialty lubricant company in the world. It's a natural fit."

The Lucas Oil product line is as expansive as its list of sponsorships. It includes the wildly popular line of engine oil additives and gear lubes and additives, as well as fuel conditioners and additives, highly specialized hydraulic and gear products, high performance and race motor oils and much more. Lucas Oil will have a technical representative on hand to answer any questions from the teams and spectators for most of the event and plans other activities during the event.

Owned and operated by Newfoundland International Motorsports Limited, Targa Newfoundland is one of three internationally recognized Targa motorsports events in the world. The 8th annual Targa Newfoundland will start in St. John's on Saturday, September 12, 2009, and end back in the capital Saturday, September 19. The competition will cover more than 2,000 kilometres of the challenging, twisty roads of the central and eastern portion of the island of Newfoundland, including up to 400 kilometres of closed-road, flat-out Targa stages. Competitors have come from the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Holland, the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos and the U.K. for the first seven editions of Targa Newfoundland and international interest continues to build with competitors registering daily.
